The ECF obligation and its impact on Brazilian companies

The Federal Revenue Service (RF) recently released version 11.0.3 of the Tax Accounting Bookkeeping (ECF) program. This update aims to improve the process of submitting tax and accounting information by Brazilian companies, ensuring greater accuracy and compliance with legal requirements. It is worth mentioning that the deadline for submitting the declaration for the previous year is July 31, 2025.

The ECF is an annual ancillary obligation that has replaced the Declaration of Economic and Fiscal Information of Legal Entities (DIPJ) since 2015. All legal entities, including immune and exempt ones, are obliged to submit the ECF, with the exception of some specific entities, such as public bodies, autarchies and public foundations.

The main purpose of the ECF is to provide the tax authorities with a comprehensive set of accounting and tax information, enabling more effective control over tax collection and the identification of possible inconsistencies or irregularities. Through the ECF, companies report data relating to net profit, tax calculation bases, adjustments to Real Profit, among others.

And how important is the EFC for Brazilian companies?

The importance of the ECF for Brazilian companies is multifaceted. Firstly, it ensures the transparency of financial information, strengthening trust between companies, the government and society. In addition, the correct preparation and submission of the ECF avoids penalties and fines for non-compliance with tax obligations. In addition, the ECF serves as an internal management tool, helping organizations with financial analysis and tax planning.

Version 11.0.3 of the ECF program brings improvements that make it easier to fill in and transmit information, making the process more efficient and less prone to errors. It is essential that companies keep their systems up to date and train their teams to deal with the new features, thus ensuring compliance with tax obligations and avoiding possible setbacks.

Dealing with the complex accounting, tax and labor obligations in Brazil requires specialized knowledge and constant monitoring of changes in legislation. In this context, having an experienced partner is essential to ensure regulatory compliance, reduce risks and optimize administrative processes. Having a qualified team to manage these demands allows managers to focus on the strategic growth of the business, without worrying about bureaucracy and possible penalties.
